why does my belly piercing smell?

sometimes now and again my belly button will give out some horrible smells.
its not crusty or anything my belly piercing is just fine.
but today when i got out the shower i smelt this horrible thing and it was my belly piercing. what is it? why does it do this?

OK i HAVE my belly pierced.. so i can actually be of help. Its just the fluids and your piercing hole getting used to the metal. its gross i know.. but its just the fluids.. keep it clean with a salt-water solution. all the stores recommend H2Ocean. And sweat can add a really nice funk smell to it as well lol

make sure when you wash it, to dry it. It could also be discharge. i mean you may not actually see it oozing out. some people will say use soap or shower gel or something. all those things with fragrances can irritate it. keep it clean like you wipe your butt as some would say. a piercing is a responsibility and you MUST keep up with it.

That's with any piercing that has a stud or rod or bar or whatever that's bigger than a 18-20 gauge. Which obviously belly button piercings are. Mine does that sometimes too. You just gotta keep up with cleaning it. usually, you can't smell it when the rings actually in your belly button. I have my tragus pierced, (A part of your ear) & it's gauged & when i take it out it smells like gauges. & gauges smell horrible. You just gotta clean it. It's the hole, not the ring. It happens. The human body's gross.. lol. Just keep up with cleaning it. Take a cottom swab & clean it really, really well.

Could be two things:

1. does it smell like feet? then you need to clean around it and in your belly button on a regular basis - some cheese is getting built up and it can be really stinky.

2. is it red and warm to the touch - could be an infection, go see a doctor.

It is infected. Might look fine, but if it smells , it's not fine. It is getting dirty on the inside of the piercing, you should take it out and clean it out. If it keeps up, you may want to take it out for good. Some people are just sensitive to body piercings.

It's not the piercing, it's your belly button. Get a cotton bud and give it a good clean out, as deep as you can get.

Take it out and clean the actual jewerly piece itself in a cleaning solution. I use the stuff that you get at Clairs when they pierce your ears. Wash it off and let it air dry or use a cloth that won't leave lint pieces. If that doesn't work, try purchasing another ring.

The same thing happens to me when i have my gauges in.

Try taking it out, then every day put peroxide on it. Thats what i do. The smell will go away in about a day.

The smell is either a fungus or an infection. Wash the navel and dry it completely. Especially inside the belly button. Clean the area with peroxide. Dry it good.

be sure the piercing is surgical steel and NOT sterling silver - the ladder will actually try to pull itself out of the piercing.

when you go in the shower obviously you was your body with soap and not all of the soap comes out of it! its the same thing with your ears not all of it comes out so when you put a earing in it white stuff come out and thats just dryed soap! so clean it once in a while!

Thats gross.... I dont think you are cleaning it properly... take the ring out and clean out your belly button and disinfect the ring.

maybe the ring is rusting... or its rele cheap. but take it out and bathe. and use ALOT of soap. and then buy a ring that isnt as cheap.
