Ok so i want to pierce my ear cartilage (upper bit, helix i think its called) and was just wondering if anyone has done it themselves and has some advice.
I don't have a proper needle or anything, but will it be ok if i just use a sewing needle or an earring?
I used an earring to pierce my ear lobes and everything went ok, no infections.

Your advice will be much appreciated.
(please don't rant at me about how i should go to a professional to get it done)

I've done all my piercings myself. I pierced my cartilage with an earing and hurt super bad, but it is well worth it.

I would advise not using an earing, I'd say use a safty pin, or just a regular needle. Either will work.

I won't tell you to get it done professionaly, but if you can't deal with quite a bit of pain then that is what I would suggest doing.

Just to let you know.

Your lobes are MUCH different from your helix.

There is much more danger involved with doing any cartilage piercing.

You could really mess up your ear, and get an infection.

Just because you did not get one before even though you did your own does not mean you are not still prone to infections and CAN get one.

Using a sewing needle is a stupid idea, and using a earring to pierce it with is as well.

For one a sewing needle is not sharp enough to actually pierce your cartilage, and it will leave no room for the earring that you stick in.

And you really think that you want to sit there a force an earring into your ear, and use that to pierce what an idiot.

You NEED a proper piercing needle to do such a piercing.

And you do not have anything to sterilize your things.

Sorry to say, BUT USE YOUR BRAIN AND GET IT DONE PROFESSIONALLY!!!!!!!

And personally I don't care how much you don't want people to 'rant' at you about going and getting it done the right way, you knew you were going to get it so why even ask the question.

My question to you is why can you not go get it done by a professional?

The best way to pierce an ear is to thoroughly saturate the area to be pierced with a cotton ball and rubbing alcohol. It acts as a disinfectant, but a lesser known benefit is that it numbs the area very well, so you will have no pain. When you're done, clean the area with the fresh juice of a sliced tomatoe with salt and apply to the ear let it dry and you won't get red from the piercing or infected.

Titanium studs or hoops are the main hypoallergenic studs obtainable. they are even much less probably to reason a reaction than chrome steel. Now ideally for a house activity in case you could locate some 18 gage disposable syringe needles you could have it made. while i replaced into in extreme college a kin chum had a considerable surgical treatment and had a I.V. factor right now into between the main lines into her coronary heart. i comprehend i visit completely mess it up attempting to spell what she had it replaced right into a Grecian catheter. yet she had distinctive a grant of distinctive length needles around for cleansing it out and stuff. in any case after she have been given it taken out and stuff she had those better procedures around and that i replaced into finding at an 18gage and located that the placed up of a regularly occurring ear real extra healthful completely into the tip of the needle. So a number of my buddies used them for piercing. you could stick the needle via then place the shaft or stud of the ear ring interior the tip of the needle then pull it back in spite of the undeniable fact that completely putting it in place. and that they have been sterile too. Now in the experience that your sterilizing a classic needle do not use a classic lighter or candle they placed to lots soot out. Use an alcohol flame or one among those jet lighters. warmth it up crimson yet you do not want the steel to start to warp. meaning your getting it to warm. then soak it in rubbing alcohol for a pair min and wipe it dry with a sterile wipe merely before you Peirce. Then save it clean and you'll be fantastic.

Hahahaa.

You don't even know what a helix is!

And your trying to use a sewing needle?

News flash, cartiladge is way different than lobes.

My only advice to you is not to "rant at you", but to TELL you to go get it professionally done.

Get it pierced professionally, and do not go to Claire's. Go to a reputable piercing shop.

put a mark where you want to pierce. Clean your ear. Ice your ear then hold a lighter to the needle or earing for a few seconds. then put a cork or apple behind your ear. Then pierce.
