Does it hurt? How easily would it get infected? Ring or stud?

I'm gonna contradict everyone! Getting it done doesn't hurt - just make sure you go to a piercing salon. Do not have it done with a gun - my first one was and it damaged the cartilage and I got a nasty infection, had two courses of antibiotics and nearly lost the top of my ear (ew!)
Get a ring - it's easier to clean the wound (professional piercers won't let you have a stud - just a bar or a ring).
And while I have a high pain threshold, it DOES hurt after you get it done - way more than lobe piercings. Usually when you roll over on it during the night. So take ibuprofen for a few days, follow all the aftercare advice and if it really hurts at night wrap your ear up with gauze and tape to cushion your ear.
My second one was done properly with a needle and the few sleepless nights were worth it - it looks great!

Well first things first, you must not get it done with a gun. They aren't clean and things can go wrong. Butterfly back studs aren't suitable for cartilage piercings. If your gonna get it done you need to find a good piercing studio that will pierce it with a needle. It doesn't matter if you have to pay more to have it done with a needle, at least you know your getting a good service paying a little bit more. Having it done with a needle also shortens the healing process.
And to answer your question, if you want it done then go for it. I got mine done 4 or 5 weeks ago. It didn't hurt too much. The needle was nothing more than a pinch. It hurt a bit when he inserted the jewellery but it last for a few seconds and its over. Cartilage piercings aren't the easiest of piercings for healing and it did swell sometimes for about 3 weeks afterwards. I got a ball closure ring put it. It was either that or a barbell and I thought a ring would look better because my ears are kinda small. I also read that ball closure rings are easier when cleaning.
It could get infected, but if you clean it well and don't touch it with unwashed hands then you should be alright. Just clean it like your piercer tells you and your'll be fine. Salt salt soaks are the best for cleaning. and keep long hair tied back so it doesn't irritate it.
Good luck and hope this helps :)

It doesn't hurt any more than regular ear piercings, but DO NOT go to Claire's or one of those places that pierces with a gun. Go to a professional piercing place that uses a needle (clean and new, of course) and don't use cheap jewelry until the hole is healed. I recommend a stud because it won't get caught on as many things as a ring can, especially when brushing your hair.

It doesn't hurt at all! I mean, of course, it does. But it's like "a moment pain". So no need to worry! And it looks really cool! You can wear little studs, rings or funky jewelery there and it will look pretty! Just don't get the ear that you sleep on pierced! Otherwise, you won't take enoguh sleep for a week or so. And don't forget it takes a lot time to heal there! Just don't take the earring off for a month or 1,5 months. Don't!! Even in the shower.
When you wanna change it, if it's been like 2 months just change it. But don't just rub there or touch there too much otherwise it will go all red!
Good luck! And go for it!

It hurts no worse then when you got your first hole. Sting's for a second but after about 5 minutes the pain completely subsides. It only will get infected if you don't clean it like any other peircing (Should be cleaned everyday). When you go to get your ear peirced they should fill you in on how to clean your ears and give you a cleaning solution and also a brochure of step by step directions on how to clean the peircing. If they don't fill you in on how to clean the peircing just ask, they will have no problem telling you. If they don't give you a free cleaning soultion (Some places do) You can use just rubbing alchoal.
I think you should definately get it done if it's something you want. The pain is nothing to sweat bullets about, and infections can be easily healed if they occur and their usually never serious if you get on it. If you are borderline on getting it and unsure, it probably be better not too, considering part of you dosn't really want it.

I got mine done a few years ago, it doesnt really hurt just like a little pinch and then it burns a little after, i had a stud in mine but i had to take mine out because it was really painful to lie on it when i was sleeping and it ended up getting infected. If you really want it done then of course go for it! just be carful and take proper care of it because i can't stress anymore to you how easily it can become infected.
Good luck x

I did mine myself with a professional needle and it didn't hurt at all. Keep it clean and it should not get infected. Defintely stud because rings move around a lot making healing slower x

It doesn't hurt that much. hair can get wrapped around it easily or it can get rubbed up against by clothes causing infection. Get a stud 2 start with.

Ah, the evil bump.. it is common in cart. piercings. i've got basically had one million bump on my tragus, it does no longer pass away so I took it out. yet, I have been given it re-pierced like a 365 days later and so a procedures no bumps. one thank you to objective to eliminate it particularly is an asprin paste -- what you do is weigh down a pill of asprin, upload a drop or 2 of water, and positioned it on the bump - in simple terms don't get it on the piercing. yet another great way would be to do sea salt soaks two times an afternoon - those are great for healing piercings.

If you want it do it :)
Doesn't really hurt, although pain differs for everyone.
Just the same as every other piercing, but it won't if you look after it properly!
I'd say stud at first, coz rings can easily get pulled or turn crusty bits into your piercing.
Good luck!!

It hurts a lot because you are piercing through cartlidge rather than skin. Sometimes it can give you a cauliflower ear or make your ear stick out more than the other one. I'd get a stud if you were getting one and make sure you get it professionally done.
It it goes well it will look very pretty. =D

Well, I got my ears peirced last year and it hurts for one second and that's it. But if you get them peirced go to claire's or walmart. They will give you the free kit to keep your ears from getting infected. Both of my sister's ears got infected but that's because they didn't take good care of them. I took very good care of them and they never got infected or botherd me. I can wear any type of earings I want. So just do what the guid says and NEVER miss a day without cleaning them. And when you get them peirced I would go with studs.
Good Luck!

i have mine done and i didnt even feel it pierce it felt warm after lol but not uncomfortable.
however have it done with a needle not a gun as a gun shatters the bone/cartalige (can't spell sorry!) they use guns to pierce cattle and it lots more likely to get infected as they cant sterilize the gun 100%
i had mine done with a gun however and it hasn't gone manky but its painful to lay on it to sleep especially when you cant take the stud out for nearly a year.just be sure to wash it twice a day with ear care solution and be careful not to tug on it for a few months -if you have long hair be particually careful!

My sister got the top ear pierced and hers got infected. But I think its rare.
I personally dont find it attractive.
But I think two piercings in each lobe is cute!
