I have had my rook piercing for over 5 months now (so around the recommended healing time) and the piercing itself seems to have pretty much healed, there is the occasional bit of crust from the underneath when I clean it but nothing major. Basically, comparing with the other ear, it still looks swollen (the upper part dips in a bit on my unpierced ear but is 'puffed' where i have had my piercing, if you get what I mean) so it still looks swollen. I also have a small scab like lump next to the top but only to one side. My scaffold piercing cause lumps on the other ear so could this been all linked to the same sort of thing?!

Hope you can help, Thanks

First of all whoever told you that re healing time was 5 months is wrong. I have a rook piercing and it took a year to heal. It's cartilage, they always take the longest to heal. It could be because that's the ear you sleep on? Try not to sleep on that side because the piercing will get irritated. Mines acted up like that too, like randomly it would start to hurt and get swollen. But it always got better. Just clean it day and night and when you get out of the shower make sure it's dry, sometimes wetness can irritate it too. I never had any lumps (their called keloids) on mines but if it does get back and unberable take it out. Many people have experienced the rejection of the rook piercings, luckily my ear took it. I'd recommend cleaning it with Claire's ear solution, it's sterile and cheap. I used it on all my piercings, industrial, rook, tragus and lobes. I never had a problem.

i might desire to alert you, i've got not got my rook pierced yet; yet if you consider that i'm getting it performed interior 10 days, i've got performed a super style of examine on it. the challenge is that it is therapeutic and you're drowsing on it. it is organic that the piercing is swollen, although if it is worse when you consider which you're drowsing on it. i could cut back that habit asap. do no longer use the touch answer; do no longer use alcohol/peroxide the two. Do sea salt soaks for 3-5 minutes with heat water for 2 times an afternoon- rinse after. I do like doing salts over a sprig; my piercings consistently calmed down greater with a soak. additionally, use anti-bacterial cleansing soap to scrub it (dial labored superb for my different piercings). yet another difficulty is, plainly such as you need to be over cleansing it; do no longer sparkling/soak it better than two times an afternoon. and don't touch it once you're no longer cleansing it the two.

May be some scar tissue build up, or hyperthrophic scarring, but that only if the bumps are painful and red. Use some diluted tea tree oil, or bio oil to take care of it, if that doesn't work, it will usually go away by itself once your piercing completely heals (from your description it sounds like your piercing isn't healed at all)

I have had my Rook pierced for over 2 years (I have 2 in the same one) and it is still easily irritated and the occasional crust. Ask your piercer, they will know best.
